About

PRBristol.co.uk is the new online network for people making and breaking the news in the West of England.

The site was launched in June 2008 by Montage Communications and has achieved coverage in PR Week, Brand Republic, The World Editor’s blog forum, Hold the Front Page, Journalism.co.uk, Connecting Bristol, Bristol Media and GWEBusinessWest Update (to date).

Aims of www.prBristol.co.uk:

  • To improve the speed, accuracy and relevance of the flow of information regarding news story leads, feature ideas and events
  • To encourage dissemination of best practice and to share industry ideas and opinions
  • To encourage developments in new technology and training that will improve the competitiveness of the industry in the region
  • To map the extent of the PR and news generation sector and provide a voice for this disparate network

Who?

This site is for anyone making and breaking the news, but specifically for the following:

  • PR agencies
  • In-house PR
  • Sole practitioners
  • Freelance PR
  • Agents and publicists
  • Photographers and other suppliers
  • Editors and news desks
  • TV and radio producers
  • News agencies
  • Freelance journalists
  • Bloggers
  • Media/PR industry associations

How?

PRBristol.co.uk aims to provide a communications network for this fast-moving but disparate industry on a number of levels, according to the requirement of the user and speed of access required. It incorporates a few easy-to-use elements:

1 The news at a glance

Can’t spare the time to trawl through all the news sources on the web? Let www.prBristol.co.uk tell you what’s happening across the network and from a myriad of news outlets through customised RSS feeds. Why would you want to use anything else as your web browser home page?

2 PRBristol blog

This is the engine room of the www.prBristol.co.uk network. It provides a soapbox for PR practitioners and news agencies to pitch story ideas or for the news media to request news leads and feature ideas across various subject areas. There are also two blogs on this site for the PR and news industries to raise awareness of issues such as training and legislation.

3 The Watering Hole

Both PR practitioners and the news media are finding it increasingly difficult to get together, owing to time and work constraints. The Watering Hole is an online social network for professionals on both sides of the fence to discuss matters of mutual interest, to sound off or simply to keep in touch! It’s no substitute for meeting face-to-face but the aim is to forge closer links.

4 Twitter

This is the announcement board, providing ‘micro blogs’ or ‘News Flashes’ on events in the region as well as updates to already-posted blogs or on development of www.prBristol.co.uk itself. The big advantage of Twitter is that you can use it on your mobile. It’s ideal for people on the move.

Sign me up - I’m in!

If you are a PR or news media professional in the West of England, you’ll want to become a member of The Watering Hole. This will allow you /your company to be promoted in the network and eventually included on the site. New applications are vetted to ensure that it is truly representative of the PR and news community.

If you want to be a blogger on the main site or have photography that you would like to promote, please contact Montage Communications who administer the network.

Environment:

PRBristol, like Blackle, saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. Any monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen.
